Clinical profile of patients admitted with pericardial effusion in Shahid Gangalal National Heart Centre, Kathmandu, Nepal

Background and Aims: Pericardial effusion is a common finding in every day clinical practice. It caused by range of local systemic disorders, many which could be idiopathic. effusions can acute or chronic. The etiology pericardial varies different parts the world related to relative prevalence diseases.
 Methods: This retrospective study where data from all cases admitted with SGNHC January 2021 December 2022 were included. Altogether 218 diagnosed established Echocardiograpy Evaluation for cause was done. Iatrogenic (cardiac surgery, catheterization) post-traumatic age <15 years excluded. Demographic profile, causes, presentation outcome patients documented.
 Results: Majority aged between 56-75 years. Most tuberculosis (56%) followed heart failure (11%), Hypothyroidism (6.4%) malignancy (5.6%). Tachycardia most ECG 152 (69.7%) Low voltage 96 (44%). feature breathlessness 85% tachycardia 56% patient.
 Conclusion: Tuberculosis, Heart Failure causes male predominance. Breathlessness presenting symptom.
